TSM Backup Administrator

Role Overview

Tata Consultancy Services is hiring an experienced TSM Backup Administrator to join its infrastructure team in Chennai. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing and maintaining enterprise-level backup and recovery solutions using IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM/IBM Spectrum Protect), ensuring data integrity, availability, and compliance with organizational backup policies across a large-scale IT environment.

Key Responsibilities

Administer, configure, and maintain IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) / IBM Spectrum Protect environments
Monitor daily backup and restore jobs, troubleshoot failures, and ensure successful completion
Manage TSM server, storage pools, policies, schedules, and client nodes
Perform capacity planning and storage management for backup infrastructure
Coordinate with application and server teams for backup onboarding and policy definition
Execute disaster recovery (DR) drills and validate restore procedures
Maintain documentation for backup architecture, runbooks, and standard operating procedures
Respond to and resolve backup-related incidents within defined SLAs
Apply patches and upgrades to TSM/Spectrum Protect environments
Generate and review backup compliance and status reports for stakeholders

Requirements / Qualifications

6 to 11 years of hands-on experience in TSM/IBM Spectrum Protect administration
Strong knowledge of backup and recovery concepts, storage technologies, and data protection strategies
Experience with tape libraries, SAN/NAS storage environments, and disk-based backup solutions
Proficiency in managing TSM server components: storage pools, management classes, device classes, and policy domains
Familiarity with operating systems including Linux/Unix and Windows in an enterprise context
Experience with scripting (Shell, Perl, or Python) for automation of backup tasks is a plus
Knowledge of disaster recovery planning and implementation
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to work under pressure
Excellent communication and documentation skills
Relevant certifications in IBM Spectrum Protect or storage administration are an added advantage
